List of Canceled Netflix Original Series in 2023 and Shows at Risk Of Cancellation

Netflix has earned a reputation for terminating shows early, and the streaming service has already canceled a number of TV shows in 2023.

It is very difficult to say goodbye to a series you just got hooked on that started making you develop some emotional attachments. At the end of the day, the studios need to make money, so if the series they put out is not performing, they need to know when to call it quits and invest their dough in other ventures.

A few of significant cancellations in 2023 indicate a possibly difficult year ahead that numerous other actors in Hollywood will experience.

Here is a list of the shows that were canceled in 2023 and a prediction of which ones might follow.

1899

Just to refresh your memory, 1899 was the major new series from the producers of Netflix’s DARK (a series that reached three seasons). The demanding show features cutting-edge new technology to film and requires millions of dollars per episode to produce.

The show, which starred Emily Beecham, Andreas Pietschmann, Aneurin Barnard, and Isabella Wei, was about immigrants sailing to a new continent who become entangled in a mystery enigma after discovering a second ship drifting aimlessly at sea.

The show had at least three seasons planned when it ended on monumentally large suspense, but as you’ve probably guessed by now, that won’t be happening.

Baran bo Odar initially issued the news on December 2nd, 2022, in a statement on Instagram which read:

“With a heavy heart we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed. We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season as we did with Dark But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned. That’s life. We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts that you were a part of this wonderful adventure.

We love you. Never forget.

Bo & Jantje”

Originally, a season 2 renewal order for the animated series Inside Job had been placed back in June 2022. Even then, the creator denied claims that Netflix had changed its mind about renewing the show in January 2023.

In a statement on Twitter, the show’s creator Shion Takeuchi wrote:

“I’m heartbroken to confirm that Netflix has decided to cancel season 2 of Inside Job. Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up. Reagan and Brett deserved to get their ending and finally find happiness. And I would have loved to been able to share what was in store with you all.

To everyone who watched, thank you for coming along on the ride. Even though I’m sad, it helps to know that there’s people out there who cared just as much about these characters as me.”

Let’s now review every series that we believe is either in danger of being canceled or has already been ghost-canceled, in which case the general public is never informed of the cancellation.

How are shows selected for this list? It’s perhaps been so long since the last season that it’s pretty guaranteed it won’t return, or they didn’t perform well according to the numerous indicators Netflix employ to assess a show’s prospects.
