Jed Mercurio is the creator and writer of the British political suspense television series Bodyguard, which is made by World Productions as a division of ITV Studios for the BBC. The fictitious Police Sergeant David Budd (Richard Madden), a British Army combat veteran with PTSD who now works for the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch of London’s Metropolitan Police Service, is the focus of the six-part television series. He is tasked with serving as the main protection officer (PPO) for the eager Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes), whose politics he disdains. The show raises awareness of contentious topics like PTSD, the politics of intervention and terrorism, as well as government surveillance of individuals’ private information and its control.
